The Manager, Photography Services serves as the manager of all imaging projects and services for the museum's staff, including curators, exhibitions, development, publications, and marketing and conservation, as well as requests from Glassell School of Art, Bayou Bend Collection and Rienzi as well as some outside users. This position oversees all activities and should manage the day-to-day and long-term operation of the Photography department in a manner that ensures it fulfills the mission of the Museum and maintains high ethical and professional standards. They should develop policies, procedures, and activities related to photographic and imaging services for the Museum's permanent collection, exhibitions, loans of art, publications, programs, social media platforms, website, and advertising/promotions.The Manager should strive to motivate team members, discover training needs and both mentor and support team members to encourage their continued growth. The Manager works under the immediate supervision of the Chairman, Department of Conservation Requirements Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in Fine Arts (Photography), Art History, or Museum Studies. At least five years of experience in talent management and/or project management, preferably within an art museum or image archive.They should have a demonstrated ability to lead a team, administer complex projects and coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously. They should have a demonstrated leadership interest, with a care to foster and develop staff, demonstrated ability to work successfully with others, e.g. museum staff, volunteers, and diverse public constituencies, to achieve institutional objectives and a broad knowledge of museum practice, especially in the related field of collection imaging and image processing. The Manager should have a solid understanding of digital imaging standards and formats.Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential, as is an ability to work with databases, word processing, and other computing tools that the staff is expected to use on a regular basis. They should have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. It is expected that they should have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and requests from museum staff, outside organizations, and the general public. Ability to generate and manage project and operational budgets. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Responsibilities: Communicates regularly with the Chairman, Department of Conservation to ensure workflow is manageable and on track and that the highest museum standards are being realized in the rights and reproduction of MFAH's collection. A demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize, and work accurately and efficiently in an organized manner to meet expectations in a deadline-driven environment. Identify and assign projects with expectations and firm deadlines to promote expedient deliveries without compromising quality. Coordinates art movement into and out of the Photo Studio with Preparations and Conservation for works requested by curatorial departments Analyze and report regularly on metrics related to deliverables and seek out solutions to excel. Participate in the development of policies, procedures, and strategies for all aspects of the department. This includes digitization, and order fulfillment, independently or by collaborating with the departmental staff. Develops policies, procedures, and activities related to photographic and imaging services for the Museum's permanent collection, exhibitions, loans of art, publications, programs, social media platforms, website, and advertising/promotions. Strives to motivate team members, discover training needs and both mentor and support team membersto encourage their continued growth. Develops and enforces usage compliance policies and distribution procedures to ensure the proper handling of digital assets. Works closely with the Information Technology department on TMS and Media Studio. Maintain proper network folder structure for all TMS and Media Studio assets. Supervises department work-study students and volunteers and manages volunteer projects. Other Responsibilities: Upholds the professional standards of the field. Extensive in-person work schedule is a regular part of this role given the supervisory responsibilities. Working Conditions and Other Requirements Must be able to work under time constraints and within established or at times, inevitable or unavoidable, changing deadlines May assist with some tandem lifting and moving of materials. Must have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces. Work is performed in varied environments; indoors in a climate-controlled environment, as well as outdoors. May be exposed to various environmental and event related factors such as but not limited to music, and crowd noise at a high, medium or low noise intensity May include prolonged sitting and standing, with occasional extended walking, climbing, bending, and kneeling. Ability to collect and analyze numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions Ability to work under deadlines and sometimes changing requirements or expectations in an appropriate manner This role may require occasional lifting and/or move up to 50 pounds.
