ABOUT THE POSITION The Staff Accountant role supports Avenue's mission by working directly with the Controller and program personnel to ensure accounting processes are functioning accurately and accurate monthly financial reports are delivered on a timely basis. The staff Accountant is also responsible for managing the organization's AP and Purchasing processes, working with the Controller and CFO on the preparation of the annual budget, and supporting internal and external auditors as needed. The temp-to-hire with a possibility to convert to a permanent position in 1-3 months, depending on performance. The Staff Accountant will support the organization's accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, the budgetary process, and providing accounting support to all departments. This position will work closely with the Controller and Accounting Assistant to ensure accurate and timely journal entries and account reconciliations. Candidates will also cross-train with team members in the other functional roles to provide back-up support as needed: 1) Property Management Accountant 2) Grants Accounting Accountant 3) Real Estate Development Accountant Essential Responsibilities **REVIEW attached job description for full details. 55% General Accounting Work with Controller and other staff accountants to identify process improvement opportunities, implement changes and ensure best practices Gain broad exposure across the accounting function and serve as a backup for other accounting positions Execute function in accordance with Avenue policy, GAAP and applicable laws Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedule Enter accounting journal entries as requested by Controller Full Cycle Accounts Payable Enter and Review Accounts Payable transactions Prepare weekly check run batches Full Cycle Purchasing Create and fulfill Purchase Orders with all required documentation and approvals Review and maintain good record of purchasing files and records (purchase orders, contracts, etc.) to ensure compliance with Avenue policies and procedures 30% Month-End Close Processes 15% Reporting and Auditing Required Bachelor's Degree or higher in Accounting or Business-related field Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in full cycle Accounting Experience with Sage Intacct or similar ERP accounting systems* Analytical skills and thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required Preferred Real Estate Development, Grants and Property Management Accounting experience highly desirable experience preferred Not for Profit Accounting experience preferred Detailed Ledger Accounting experience preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Power Point) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required. Strong customer service orientation- Responds promptly to staff needs; responds to requests for service and assistance; timely prepares reports, checks or purchase orders. Excellent people skills: ability to work well with a diverse range of individuals Team orientation, with proven ability to work collaboratively with staff and external parties, such as outside vendors on account issues, resolving issues effectively while building relationships for future use.
