Scientific Drilling International is looking for two Operations Engineers in Houston, TX . Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide. Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world. We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems. The Operations Engineer is responsible for effectively assisting with projects and investigating and preventing incidents. Working with the Director-Ops Engineer & Data Strategy to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies. Position Summary: As an Operations Engineer, your primary responsibility will be assisting district operations in investigating, correcting, and preventing incidents in the field. This involves routine collaboration across the organization, within each central pillar of the company: Operations, Engineering, & Manufacturing. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter and able to pursue each project/task with passion and urgency. A proven ability to build relationships and work well as a team is a plus. Duties and Responsibilities: Perform Root-cause analysis and incident resolution in supporting district operations. Drilling optimization through BHA design and data analysis. Conduct detailed engineering analysis and present results in a coherent manner. Diagnose and mitigate drilling dysfunction (poor practices, vibration, stuck pipe, hole cleaning, wellbore instability, etc.) to prevent downhole failures and reduce drilling inefficiencies. Generate detailed reports related to incident resolution and be able to present material to district operations and customers on a regular basis. Help lead KPI and performance reviews for clients. Periodically may go on-site or to client office to consult with drilling personnel regarding drilling engineering and incident resolution. Perform other relevant duties as required. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborate with sales and major account managers to assist with client needs. Actively participate in industry specific best practices groups such as SPE, SPWLA, AADE, IADD, etc. Mentor lesser experienced engineers in advanced software capabilities, interpreting results, best practices, engineering standards, and client relations. Actively initiate technical publications and speaking engagements that propel recognition of Scientific Drilling as an industry leader. Actively engaged in further academic and technical proficiency. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Learns quickly and adapts to new problems and situations. Pursues every job with drive and determination. Uses logic to solve problems with effective solutions. Is personally committed to continual improvement and client satisfaction. Actively listens, and proficient in oral and written communication with managers, peers, and clients. Presents self with professional appearance and behavior. Ability to multitask. Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field (Mechanical, Petroleum, Civil, Industrial, Aerospace, Math/Physics, etc.) 2+ years of field experience. Temporary rotation to field locations will be required if qualification not met. Proven track record of soft skills in communication, team building, mentoring is desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Preferred Education and Experience: 5+ years' experience related to drilling optimization, root-cause analysis, and data analysis. Proficiency using drilling engineering software: Landmark Graphics WELLPLAN™ or equivalent, WellScan or other BHA analysis software. Work Environment, Physical Job Requirements and PPE: Up to 25% Travel is expected to global offices and/or field locations. Primarily will be in Houston Area. Expected to work during typical working hours but must be accessible 24/7 for emergency support. Ability to wear proper PPE, including but not limited to safety glasses, hardhat, reinforced toed shoes, FR clothing, gloves, and ear protection.
