The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Backflow Inspector to lead and improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Public Works Department . If so, you may be perfect for this position! The Backflow Inspector earns a competitive salary of $20.17 - 21.84 per hour based on qualifications. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE BACKFLOW INSPECTOR. This position reports directly to the Backflow Compliance Coordinator and is responsible for performing work functions associated with Backflow installation, repair, record keeping, calibrations, and cross-connection control. Inspect and maintain all backflow prevention assemblies in the City of Pearland's (City) water distribution system. This position will ensure compliance with all Federal and State standards moving forward. This position would also ensure quality control and asset management of city-owned assemblies. Essential Functions: Ability to test and repair all types of backflow prevention assemblies. Ability to inspect and identify any cross-connections or potential contamination hazards are present and determine if backflow prevention is required at a site. Maintains all records for each backflow prevention assembly to assure calibration as performed in accordance with yearly requirements pertaining to cross-connection control. Performs necessary public relations in regard to backflow prevention Monitors installations of backflow prevention assemblies on City water connections. Maintains City vehicles and equipment used for any and all jobs. Review building plans and recommend appropriate backflow prevention assemblies as required by City ordinances. Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions. May cross-train in one or more areas of department functions; Participate and attend all City-sponsored training as required. Perform other job duties as required or assigned. Enter data into the computer-based backflow software to record backflow test results and create reports as needed. Additional Duties : Communicate with internal and external customers concerning backflow issues and questions. Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High School Diploma or GED. Technical coursework in cross-connection/ backflow inspections. Requires two to four years of experience in water system surveys backflow prevention testing and inspections. Ability to read plans, water field maps, and water-related diagrams.
