The City of Pearland, TX, is seeking to hire a full-time Assistant City Engineer to lead aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Engineering and Public Works department. The Assistant City Engineer earns a competitive salary of $82,933.84 to $105,740.65 per year based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance, plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS THE ASSISTANT CITY ENGINEER Regular and timely attendance at work. Review and approve the engineering reports and construction plans related to environmental, geotechnical, drainage, and traffic for capital improvement projects and residential and commercial projects. Review and approve various permit applications such as Residential permits, commercial permits, driveway permits etc. Review and provide commentary on preliminary and final plans for conformance with Pearland's subdivision ordinance, engineering design criteria manual, and various master plans. Coordinate the review and approval of plans for engineering elements. Coordinate with other local agencies to maximize the efficiency and benefits of adjacent or overlapping improvements and long-term planning. Help to address issues during construction and ensure that the infrastructure is acceptable to the City before accepting the infrastructure within the City Right Of Way. Understand and calculate water and wastewater impact fees per city ordinance for various uses of the properties within the City. Assist in developing, planning, and implementing the division's goals and objectives, including organizational development, personnel development, and overall succession planning efforts. Attend regular meetings such as Pre-Development, Design Review Committee (DRC), and Planning and Zoning meetings. Supervise assigned positions; plan and organize workflow and staff assignments; train, motivate, and evaluate staff; resolve complaints and maintain harmony among staff; assist subordinates in performing duties and adjusting errors. Coordinate the review and approval of the Elevation Certificate. Seek local training opportunities for all department personnel to stay informed and updated on current practices, requirements, and standards. Serves as "essential personnel" and must remain available for immediate call-in due to any natural or manmade disaster, or any other event the City Engineer, Assistant City Manager, or City Manager deems necessary. Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree from four (4) years of college or university Five (5) years of responsible experience in civil engineering (Planning, designing, and inspection) Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM), or the ability to acquire within six (6) months of employment. Valid, Class C Texas Driver's License DESIRED SKILLS Experience with Municipal jobs related to engineering is preferred. Experience using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, and other hydrology and hydraulics modeling software is preferred. Experience in the use of AutoCAD Civil3D and ARC GIS is preferred.
