Position Title: Machinist II Department: Manufacturing Location: Houston, TX Reports To: Machine Shop Supervisor Classification: Non-Exempt Shift: 1st Shift Position Summary: Able to set up, run, edit, and program if needed on CNC equipment as assigned. Select appropriate tooling and fixtures as needed, makes necessary adjustments, and replaces tools as required. Maintains work area and equipment in clean, orderly condition. Follows quality requirements and ensures a high level of quality in machined parts based on the blueprint, drawing or work instruction. Assist with any other duties as required. Essential Job Duties: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Individual must be able to perform the duties of Machinist level I Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, etc. Able to use and read general QC equipment, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, etc. Basic knowledge of GD&T. Ability to edit and program using G codes, offsetting, teaching tools, and loading programs, etc. Ability to perform set-ups on CNC machines, lath and/or mills, including selection of tooling and fixtures as needed. Knowledge of optimal tooling selection, feed and speed calculation, materials, and overall process improvement. Promotes the company initiative of Lean Manufacturing/ Continuous Improvement projects. Ability to work with little to no supervision. Able to train and assist other machinist. Perform other work-related tasks, as assigned. Required Education: Essential High School diploma or GED, or Equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Trade school is preferred. Required Skills/Experience: Essential 5-7+ years as CNC machinist primarily with FANUC or MAZAK controls Knowledge of G & M codes, editing the programming. Ability to identify and solve problems. Ability to perform own set-ups. Strong math skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills. Physical ability to stand, bend, sit and lift up 40 pounds for 8 to 12 hours per day. Willingness to work nights, weekends, and/or overtime if required. Preferred Experience setting up and running Hardinge GT27S and GS51. Physical Dexterity required; ability to ascend/descend ladders; ability to stand, walk, bend, sit, lift, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and move objects for 8 to 12 hours per day. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Speak/hear and use specific vision abilities such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Capability of properly using standard office equipment including a computer with a keyboard. Ability to wear and utilize Personal Protective Safety Equipment (PPE). Required equipment includes steel toed shoes, safety glasses/goggles. Additional PPE may be required, e.g., safety harnesses, Fire Retardant Clothing (FRC), hard hats, or other as assigned.
