Overview: The Human Resources Office at the University of St. Thomas is entrusted with the critical task of upholding sound HR, business, and financial practice, federal and state regulations, university policies, established business protocols, and which reflect the University's Catholic identity. The AVP leads the execution of the strategic plan for Human Resources. This involves spearheading major HR initiatives, orchestrating the formulation of policies, procedures, and systems governing all HR activities, and overseeing a dedicated team of HR professionals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of the work being performed by this position. Develop and implement the University's human resources strategy, aligning it with the University's overall mission and objectives. Attract top- tier talent through the implementation of robust Talent Acquisition. Implements and manages Talent Management and Total Rewards for the institution. Promote a positive work environment by addressing employee relations issues, conducting investigations when necessary, and fostering a culture of solidarity, respect, and professionalism. Oversee the design and administration of competitive compensation and benefits programs, ensuring their alignment with industry standards and the University's financial resources. A proven track record in developing impactful, employee-centered human resources programs, which includes designing, implementing, and evaluating innovative workplace initiatives. Implement performance appraisal processes and support professional development initiatives to enhance employee performance and growth. Stay current with employment laws and regulations, ensuring the University's policies and practices remain compliant. Develop and champion initiatives that foster solidarity and honor the dignity of the human person throughout the university community. Serve as a senior advisor, coach, and trusted resource to the leadership team by providing leadership and direction to the management team on HR issues such as organization design, leadership development, succession planning, recruitment, performance management, training, human resource policy, talent retention strategies, wellness initiatives, and compensation. Collaborate with legal counsel and senior leadership on university issues. Promote a high level of staff and faculty engagement, including managing effective onboarding, orientation, employee survey, and exit interview processes. Promote a culture of integrity, transparency, and honest feedback in support of UST's core values. Oversee annual auditing and selection/negotiation of all benefits packages. Draft, manage and implement the human resource department's budget. Serve as a key internal point person for employee relations and personnel mediation. Promote work-life balance, employee wellness, and retention through creative benefits initiatives. Utilize data and analytics to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement in HR programs. Serve as the University's Title IX and Compliance Officer, including reviewing incident reports, overseeing investigations, and compliance reporting. Ensure strict adherence to the guidelines set forth by the Southern Accreditation of Colleges and Schools Commission on Schools (SACSCOC) concerning all university human resources policies and procedures. This includes furnishing the necessary documentation and information required for the renewal of the University's accrediting agency status. Education, Knowledge, and Skills: A master's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field is required. A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources leadership, preferably in higher education or a similarly complex organization. Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations. SHRM-SCP Certification preferred Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Exceptional relationship-building skills and a proven ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including staff, administrators, faculty, and students, within a culture of shared governance. Exceptional organizational agility and the ability to manage expectations and prioritize tasks in the face of competing demands. Demonstrated strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Prior experience with PeopleSoft and ApplicantPro a plus. An understanding of Ex corde Ecclesiae and a willingness to support the University as it seeks to be faithful to and embody the riches of the Catholic intellectual tradition. Practicing Catholic preferred.
